A visitor

We rescued this bristly beast today. It had fallen down a brick pit in the garden, and was stuck. We don't know how long it had been there, but because it moved unsteadily, we brought it into the house to warm it up and give it something to eat and drink.

It seemed a little weak and wobbly, but not weak enough to be unable to huff its displeasure when we handled it, and plenty strong enough to devour the worms we gave it. When we let it go, half an hour later, it stomped off into the undergrowth with renewed vigour.

Hedgehogs aren't regular visitors to our garden -- in the 30 years that the house has been occupied this is only the second time one's been spotted -- so this unexpected visitor added some low-key excitement to the day.

oh now! Look at that nose. This post was worth the six month wait.

I'll endeavour to line up another cute animal picture so I can post it after the next six months of inactivity.

You know what I like. Coming to Open Tech on Saturday?

Apparently not since it's Saturday now and this is the first I've heard of the thing.

Then you should read NTK! I didn't go either in the end, too scared of London.

I've been reading NTK for years, I just never pay much attention to the events section! I do wish I'd gone though. A fiver to see (and possibly even meet) a pantheon of world-famous geeks including Cory Doctorow, Danny O'Brien, jwz, Ben Hammersley and Ted Nelson[1] -- that would have been bloody great.

[1] Longtime readers with good memories might recall that I've met Ted Nelson once before, when, completely unannounced, he poked his head into our office during a loud and easily misinterpretable conversation about drugs.

heh, well, there will be other events. But will you spot them in time? Don't worry, I'll tip you off in more time in future. And yeah, I thought you were the NTK sort (Danny etc are lovely in real life, all really approachable)
