Today: a productive day

Today started like yesterday: with a blank page and a requirement to do something with it that would be suitable for a cover design for an event programme.

At least I had the advantage over yesterday of starting with an idea already rattling around in my head (the benefit of not being able to stop thinking about this problem all evening), so I fired up Photoshop to do another rough sketch, so that I could see how well it worked.

Second rough concept for 2008 CVS charity dinner

Looked pretty good (though I can't draw hands) and definitely doable in a few hours. From this prototype I made a much cleaner vector illustration, with only small changes to the design, recreating the sketch's dimensions with filled shapes made up of straight lines and Bezier curves.

I'm really happy with this design (though I can't draw vector hands either). Although it's a lot simpler than yesterday's idea, I think it's better. Also, the coloured irregular polygon in the background gives me a design element that I can carry through to the headings inside the programme:

There'll probably be some feedback tomorrow and changes to make, but apparently my boss really likes it, so we're nearly there.

So... that concludes this two-part post about brainstorming, then producing, this illustration. Like I said at the start of yesterday's post, I really only do this kind of work once a year, so forgive me for taking the chance to indulge in work blogging — I'll try not to make it a habit.

Given the bad financial scenario a lot of people are staying in more than they usually would. An art print or a poster of their favorite telly show or movie, perhaps a wall hanging showing uplifting religious scenes, is a thoughtful present in these times. Keeping your spirits up and your mind alive is a survival essential for bad times.

I'm so tired of seeing all these spam comments. It's a sin that blogs are getting polluted this way.

Hey, something is wrong with your header, it's not alligned right.. you should look into that

Thanks for the great post and your ideas. It's really right on - you have ignited thoughts from a angle I hadn’t really thought about yet. I hope that I can do somehing with the info.

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

My mate told to visit this website and now I understand for what reason. This site is undoubtedly worth to visit! I'm going to recommend it to friends of mine too. It is certain that this site will soon get better positions at search engines and become more popular.

I warned people I know what would happen if Obama was elected. You get to know someone by the people they consider friends and with whom they associate. Obama lied about so much during the campaign. I dont see the charisma or the great speech making ability. I see someone whose smile reminds me of the crocodile in the movie Peter Pan. I saw vibes coming from him that made my skin crawl. His voice gives me chills. They say hes brilliant, but the only brilliane I see is coopting someone elses ideas. I had Clinton pegged as the lech he is the first time I saw his face and heard him speak on TV. Too many people voted for Obama because of his skin color and that his election made history. I see someone that made history as the first Communist elected as our president. What is happening now almost makes me cry for the future generations of this country. I fear for my grandchildren and great grandchildren.

When we gonna see an update, man? This is super!
